Making reading fun

The Sigagule Centre has two interactive rooms, a playroom and a reading room. Valentine, a volunteer from the community, oversees the children when they visit the rooms each day.

Every week some Rotary members spend time with the children doing various fun things; one of which is reading with them.

The White River Rotary Club has a literacy programme called Books in Homes. The books are perfect for South African children. The series of  books range from One word Readers, Early sight Readers to Read Alouds. These also include some dual language books in Tsonga which is the mother tongue of the children.

Our Club purchased multiple copies of 27 different books and 40 different teaching charts. There are now more than enough books, at various levels, for each child to select a book to read.

Three full containers were handed over to the Centre last month.
